MAKE UP SHELF LIFE

Most make up kits have products that have over lived their use. Unlike most products, make up doesn’t sometimes come with and expiry date, so it’s up to you to know the shelf life of all the products in your kit.

 Here’s a simple guide on basic products and how long they should be around for.

PRODUCT	SHELF LIFE
Face powder	Lasts for up to 2 years
Concealer	Lasts for up to 12 months
Foundation	Water based-12months Oil based – 18 months
Lipstick	Lasts up to 3yrs  but if it has a rancid smell please toss it
Lip liner	Lasts up to 2yrs
Mascara	Discarded after 3 months
Eye shadow	Lasts up to 3yrs  but if it has a rancid smell please toss it
Eye liner	Sharpened regularly and capped after use, lasts up to 3 yrs
Nail polish	Lasts up to 12 months, but if there is color change or it separates then toss it
Sponges, brushes, brow combs eyelash curlers	Wash once a week with soap and toss after 3 months

Bacteria have a habit of growing on make up without you even knowing it. 

 Here are ways to keep your make up safe:

1.       Keep your make up away from heat, moisture; which means you can’t keep it in your bathroom.

2.       Keep an eye on concealer, liquid foundation, lipstick and lip gloss colors, in case of any change please get rid of it. In the case of lip gloss, once you apply you’ll feel some irritation on your lips, at that point please throw it away.

3.       When the bristles start to fray or fall out, it's time for a new set.
