UP AND COMING DESIGNER OF THE MONTH : MIRIAM MWANGI

fgk: Describe your style.
MM:The way I wear expresses my character. I am a fun and exciting person. I love looking colorful but sophisticated, Fashionable, simple and comfortable.Every one is unique and thus the clothes we wear are just
as unique.

fgk: How long have you been  designing?
MM:for 5 years now

fgk: Describe your designs. What inspires you?
MM:My designs are based on the beauty of nature also street arts. The key aspect on my designs is colour.

fgk:Have you showcased your collection? Where?
MM:I have showcased my design here in London, at fashion Vauxhall scout in a runaway show called fashion futures, junior awards.



fgk: What did you learn from the experience?

MM:Different opinions from different people developed my ambition of being a designer; also I learnt new skills such as: how to be more professional in what I am doing and how to develop my career in the fashion industry.

fgk: What challenges are there for an upcoming designer away from home?
MM:It is not as difficult, you just need to believe in yourself,know that you can make it and you can face the challenges as they come.

fgk: how has studying in London influenced you, your career path?
MM:London is the most famous place for fashion, we get a lot of people coming here for London fashion week, and fashion classes are offered in school, studying here has raised my hope for a better future.



fgk: What are you working on right now?

MM:I am currently studying at London College of fashion, Am working on another fashion show in September.I'll keep you posted on that.

fgk: What are your plans for the future?
MM:To be a fashion designer for both womenswear and menswear.

fgk: who’s your role model in the fashion industry?
MM:Alexander McQueen. (great pick by the way)

fgk: Have you come up with a name for your line?
MM:Not at the moment.

fgk: Do you ever plan to come back home?
                                        MM:Yes i do.


fgk: What’s your advice to up and coming designers like yourself?
MM: As a fashion enthusiast, I believe fashion is involving it represents you, its fun. A fashion designer understands
that clothes are much more than protection from the elements. Fashion can make someone feel better. Don’t give up if is getting out of control because is not as easy as you may think. Just study hard and believe in yourself and also encourage yourself and listen to other people opinions and advise, it helps at times. Fashion designers need artistic ability and originality to succeed in the industry. It’s a highly competitive industry. Successful fashion designers know how to learn from a critique while maintaining their individual style.



fgk: What are the 5 things you never leave home without?
MM:oohh very simple,my Phone, money ,makeup,perfume, hand bag.

What you said is very true 'fashion is based on the way you express yourself' and how you openly portray yourself clearly states that ''you have passion in the fashion field'' and your love for colours.
My advice is ''show others what fashion trends you have in your mind, work hard, and ROCK THEM''
